Engine strain or abnormal noise

Another sign of a clogged air filter is a tense engine or abnormal noise. When air cannot enter the engine as it needs to, it cannot perform at its best and some signs or noises will be produced.

For instance, if you are sitting quietly and notice that your car is shaking more severely than normal, this is a rough free time. Many things can cause rough idling, and dirty or clogged air filters are one of them.
In addition, when the air filter needs to be replaced, you may hear interesting noises from under the engine or the hood. This sound might come from something inside the air filter housing, such as leaves or other items. It might even be your engine struggling with the air.
