Regarding the air conditioning filter

The air conditioning filter of a car is generally installed in the car's air conditioning system, usually behind the glove compartment in front of the passenger seat. However, the location may vary among different car models. It is mainly composed of filter materials (such as filter paper, activated carbon, etc.) and a frame. Filter materials are used to intercept harmful substances such as dust, pollen and bacteria, while the frame serves to support and fix the filter materials.

Working principle
When the ventilation system or air conditioning system of a car is turned on, outside air is drawn in. Air first enters the air conditioning filter. As it passes through the filter material, impurities are intercepted. For instance, filter paper can filter out larger particles of dust, while activated carbon can adsorb odor molecules, harmful gases (such as formaldehyde, benzene, etc.) and tiny particles. In this way, the clean air that has been filtered will be sent into the interior of the vehicle, providing a comfortable and healthy air environment for the driver and passengers.

Main function
Purify the air

Effectively filter out allergens such as dust and pollen in the air. During the pollen season, it can significantly reduce the amount of pollen entering the carriage. For passengers with allergic constitutions, it can alleviate allergic symptoms. At the same time, it can also filter out particulate matter such as dust and industrial pollutants on the road, keeping the air inside the vehicle clean.

Eliminate odors

The air conditioning filter made of activated carbon can absorb the unpleasant smell in the car. For instance, when there are passengers smoking in the car, the unpleasant smell will remain in the air. The activated carbon in the air conditioning filter can adsorb the harmful components and odors in the smoke, keeping the air inside the car fresh. In addition, it can also absorb harmful gases emitted from car interiors, such as formaldehyde that may exist in new cars.

Protect the air conditioning system

Prevent dust and other impurities from entering the internal components of the air conditioning system, such as evaporators and blowers. If there is no air conditioning filter or the filter fails, dust and other impurities will accumulate on these components, reducing the performance of the air conditioning system. For instance, the accumulation of dust on the evaporator can affect its heat exchange efficiency, leading to a decline in the cooling or heating performance of the air conditioner, and it may also breed bacteria and mold.

Maintenance and replacement
The air conditioning filter needs to be replaced regularly. It is generally recommended to replace it every 10,000 to 20,000 kilometers or once a year. The specific replacement cycle may also be affected by the vehicle's usage environment and frequency. If a vehicle is frequently driven in an environment with a lot of dust or the air conditioner is used frequently, the replacement cycle should be appropriately shortened. Replacing the air conditioning filter can usually be done by yourself. For the filter installed at the back of the glove box, it is generally only necessary to open the glove box, remove the clips or baffles that fix the filter, take out the old filter, and then install the new one.
